David Lemieux injures hand; has to withdraw from John Ryder bout.

Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux, looking for success at super middleweight, will have to wait a little longer.

3kingsboxing.com has learned Lemieux suffered an injury to his right hand while sparring and was advised by his doctor to rest the hand for eight weeks before returning to the gym.

This news is unfortunate because the winner of Lemieux vs Ryder would’ve become WBA the mandatory for Canelo Alvarez’ WBA regular title. Additionally, they could have been in line for a shot at the super champion Callum Smith.

Lemieux had this to say on injury:

‘Training camp was going really great. I felt in tremendous shape, the strongest I’d ever felt in my entire career. But, I will be back soon. Hopefully, the fans will understand. I promise I will make it up to them once I’m healed.”

There’s no word on whether or not Ryder will remain on the card or not and if so, who his new opponent will be.

3kingsboxing.comwill continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
