Leonardo Mosquea Claims a Split Decision Over Cheavon Clarke
The fans at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo witnessed a terrific cruiserweight contest between Cheavon Clarke and Leonardo Mosquea. In the end, Mosquea was ruled the winner by a split decision victory (117-113 Clarke, 116-112 Mosquea, 115-112).
Mosquea (16-0, 9 KOs) got the fireworks going early, putting Clarke (10-1, 7 KOs) down from a series of punches forty seconds into the opening rounds. It took some time for Clarke to recover. It wasn’t until the midway point of the fight that he was letting the shots go.
It was toe-to-toe action throughout the second half of the contest. Both men had their share of success and had the crowd on their feet. Though Clarke finished stronger, he couldn’t overcome the early deficit on the scorecards.
For Mosquea, this was the biggest win of his professional career. It was a devastating defeat for Clarke. Ranked in the top ten by the WBC, WBA, and IBF at cruiserweight and hopeful of a world title shot in 2025, it’s now back to the drawing board.
