Lerrone Richards Gunning For an Edgar Berlanga Duel!
For his first prizefight of the year, super middleweight boxer Lerrone “Sniper The Boss” Richards (18-0, 4 KO’s) will face Steed Woodall. Provided that Richards is successful in this match, he’d love to go after bigger names in the division. In fact, if given his way, Sniper The Boss would love a crack at the heavy-handed Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (22-0, 17 KO’s).
“I would love the Berlanga fight, I think that is a great fight. Boxing will love that fight and I think it makes sense. I would say we are both top world contenders right now and after this fight, I will have a good world ranking and then we will see where it goes from there. But I do like that Berlanga fight.”
WILL TWO WANT TO TANGO?!
For his part, Berlanga snagged a sixth-round knockout victory over Padraig McCrory this past February 24. The bout marked Berlanga’s first fight of the year as well. Ranked #1 (WBA), #4 (IBF) and #8 (WBC), The Chosen One is looking to advance his reputation by facing the big names in the division. With his #1 (WBA) ranking, Berlanga is in a great position to attempt forcing a title shot.
While his favorable standings may be attractive to Lerrone Richards, Sniper The Boss very likely will not have anything to attract Berlanga. Perhaps the Brooklyn native will take the opportunity to travel across the pond and dance with Richards in his own backyard. Naturally, this would be in an effort to pick up some supporters from the UK. Based on his low knockout ratio, Berlanga may also face the skilled pugilist with the calculus being he can’t get hurt.
In the end, we’ll have to wait and see what Richards does when in against Woodall. Assuming that Sniper The Boss does well, then he can resume his pursuit of the popular Edgar Berlanga.
