Liam Smith Puts Out An “APB” On Chris Eubank Jr!
At the moment, junior middleweight Liam “Beefy” Smith (31-3-1, 18 KO’s) is currently riding a two-fight win streak. In his last defeat to Magomed Kurbanov, the third of his career, Beefy was beaten by way of unanimous decision. Since that setback Smith has stopped Anthony Fowler and former WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas within the distance.
The former WBO champion, now holding the secondary WBO Inter-Continental 154-pound title, Smith has his mind focused on securing his next opponent. Of course, it goes without question he would most like to pen a match with undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo. Yet, if being honest, Smith does not think that he will get the call for that meaningful dust-up next.
WHAT’S IT GOING TO BE?
Provided that the shot at the top dog eludes him as he thinks that it will, Smith has already lined up some consolation matches. One such prizefight that he’d love to accept is one with middleweight Chris Eubank Jr (32-2, 23 KO’s). The former WBO champion has spoken his mind on the subject before, but he refreshed his interest in getting that done this year during a recent interview with Fight Hub TV.
“I hope so…I think the question is up to Chris and his team. I’ve said this since the day that I signed with Sky. I’ll take the fight tomorrow. Hopefully that can be made but the question has got to be asked to Chris; he’s quite quiet on the situation but we’ll wait and see.”
For his part Eubank, who is ranked #1 (WBA) #2 (WBO) and #3 (WBC), is currently on a six fight, four-year win streak. During his only bout of the year, Eubank Jr nabbed a twelve round unanimous decision win over Liam Williams. Similar to Smith, Eubank Jr would also like a shot at a Charlo. Only Eubank would desire a shot at WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.
Also similar to Smith, it’s rather unlikely that Charlo will select Eubank Jr for his next in ring foe. So, we shall just have to see who Eubank Jr and Smith can pen a match with next!
