The winner of Miguel Berchelt vs Francisco Vargas may get the opportunity to face Vasyl Lomachenko
The winner of WBC junior lightweight champion Miguel Berchelt and Francisco Vargas have alluring opportunities awaiting. The anticipated rematch will take place March 23 at the Forum in Inglewood California.
Both world-class foes clashed for the first time in January 2017. At the time, Vargas, the champion, hadn’t tasted defeat. He excited blood-thirsty boxing fans with his back-to-back wars against rugged veterans Orlando Salido and Takashi Miura.
Berchelt, on the other hand, had fought in the U.S. only once and suffered a knockout loss in Mexico shortly after. However, the young contender wouldn’t let the opportunity at championship stardom slip from his grasp, as he relentlessly battered Vargas.
The vicious offensive attack subsequently forced referee Raul Claz Jr to call a halt to the bout in the eleventh round.
Even more exciting is that Top Rank president Todd duBoef has announced the winner would battle WBA lightweight champion, Vasiliy Lomachenko.
The intriguing bout could take place as at the end of the year at a weight that is unknown. As many know, the unified lightweight champion last fought at junior lightweight against Guillermo Rigondeaux in December 2017.
Lomachenko (30), easily defeated WBO lightweight titlist Jose Pedraza in December and is expected to return in April.
