Teofimo Lopez Name-drops Boots Ennis
In what should have been a hard fight, WBO junior welterweight champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KO) dispatched Arnold Barboza (32-1, 11 KO) by unanimous decision. The Takeover is willing to line up a fight against unified welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (34-0, 30 KO).
Barboza wanted to fight Lopez when they fought under the Top Rank banner. However, he failed to produce any momentum as Lopez’s movement, defense, speed, and feints were a problem for the Californian. After twelve rounds of the WBO champion landing punches at will, the judges scored it 116-112 (twice) and 118-110.
What’s next is a possible showdown with Ennis. During the in-ring interview, Lopez didn’t back down when asked about a fight against the Philadelphian.
“Yeah, definitely . . . I’m Dora the Explorer, and I’m looking for Boots.”
Team Lopez has expressed a belief that they could beat Ennis in the past. A fight between these two would be an epic event that could be billed as Philadelphia vs New York. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of months.
