The Future of Conor Benn Resides at 147

If glory and winning a world title means anything to England’s Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KOs), it’s clear that he needs to make a return to the welterweight division. If that means bypassing a potential rematch with arch-rival Chris Eubank Jr., so be it.

Coming off a unanimous decision loss to Eubank on April 26 in London, England, Benn put in a tremendous effort and gained plenty of respect throughout the boxing community. To boot, the fight was Benn’s largest payday.

The urge will be strong to run it back with Eubank Jr. However, Benn needs to go where he’s most comfortable – at 147. Potential welterweight options for Benn are Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) and the reigning WBC welterweight champion, Mario Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs). Many pundits believe that the fiery Brit has an excellent chance of beating both Garcia and Barrios. If Team Benn is thinking long-term, the choice should be obvious.
