Teofimo Lopez continues his campaign for a fight with Josh Taylor
Unified lightweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (16-0, 12ko) claps back at undisputed junior welterweight champion Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor (18-0, 13ko). The Takeover is already eyeing a move up in weight and a showdown with the newly crowned undisputed champion Taylor. Lopez makes it clear that is the fight he wants but is unwilling go to Taylor’s backyard for the fight.
Lopez insists on telling everyone that he is the cash cow of the division. However, he had to go to great lengths to get the money he wanted for the upcoming George Kambosos fight after Top Rank refused to pay the kind of money team Lopez was demanding. The unified champion decided to gamble and let the fight go to purse bid. Triller Promotions won the bid, giving him the payday he desired.
Lopez is a star in the sport and there are no questions about it. However, if he moves up, then Taylor is the shot-caller in the junior welterweight division.
“He (Lopez) has to take care of some business at lightweight first. He’s got to take care of what he is doing and actually become an undisputed champion at lightweight, first.”
Well, The Takeover got a chance to respond during an interview on Behind The Gloves.
“Why are you so scared, Josh? Come on my man, come on. My God, you can’t be that scared. Look, he wants to go up to 147 because he’s 140, so he feels like he could get some type of competition with Crawford.”
Lopez also claims that the undisputed champion still needs to fight other fighters the caliber of himself.
“Josh Taylor is trying to boost his ego and say that ‘hey, I am undisputed, and I worked so hard’. Good job for you, but you got to face guys like myself to prove that. I am willing to step up to the plate, but are you?”
