In this day and age, social media has been responsible for a lot of back and forth trash talk in boxing. We’ve seen a number of fighters, in particular the fighters of the social media era, get into virtual spats that often lead to nothing but false promises of an actual fight coming to fruition.

The latest saga is between current unbeaten lightweight champions WBC champion “in-recess” Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs) and IBF champion Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez (15-0, 12KOs).

It all started after Haney took to social media to declare he’d be willing to bet seven figures on himself against anybody in his division. That’s when fellow champion Lopez responded by telling Haney to “Shut the fuck up kid” while declaring Haney as annoying.

Obviously, both of these guys are supremely talented and are eager to test their skills against the upper echelon guys in their division or against one another sometime soon.

While both men are two of the best at lightweight, they’re on two different paths in their career. Most would love to see these two young guys lock horns. However, we all know that there’s a process that each will likely follow to make a potential fight as big, monetarily, as possible.

So while the internet banter is fun and entertaining, an actual fight between these fighters would go a long way in determining actually who is the man of lightweight.

Whether it’s an unification bout or a showdown, let’s hope these two talented young fighters tangle in the near future.
