Erickson Lubin Says He is Very Open to Fighting Tim Tszyu

If given the opportunity to compete for a world title, few would question that super welterweight champion Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (26-2, 18 KO’s) would answer the call of duty. This is precisely why he recently took to his social media to express his mystification at hearing that he’d passed on the chance to dance with WBO 154-pound champion Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-0, 17 KO’s).

THE ROCKY ROAD HERE

Lubin has been out of action since picking up his latest win over Jesus Alejandro Ramos Jr. last September 30, 2023. It was his second win following his second professional loss to Sebastian . The failed duel with Fundora had held the Interim WBC title and future shot at WBC and WBA 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo in the balance.

This was extremely meaningful to The Hammer given the fact that it was Jermell Charlo who put the premiere blemish on his record. That first loss also transpired during his first attempt at a world title. Following the Charlo setback, it took Lubin six fights over four years to get the shot at Fundora and the partial title.

WHAT ELSE YOU DOING?!

Despite the hurdles and heartbreaks, The Hammer has remained vigilant in his pursuit of a world title. The question now: if Lubin was in negotiations before the confusion, now that he’s cleared it up, will the talks with Tszyu resume?

Similar to Lubin, Tszyu is also itching for his shot at Jermell Charlo. Interestingly enough, in his last knuckle-chucking session, Charlo suffered a stock draining and humbling shutout loss to undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Currently, there is no telling when or what version of Charlo will be back.

To this point in time, Tszyu has carried himself like a hungry competitor who wants to remain active and square-up with the best. With this being said, if Charlo is off the table for a while, then The Soul Taker could do a lot worse than locking horns with Lubin, who is ranked #2 (WBO), #3 (IBF), #4 (WBA) and #5 (WBC).

Sadly for Lubin, while being a bit cryptic, Tszyu might have already given his answer. Until confirmation is secured however, stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing to see what comes of this possibly brewing situation.
