Juan Manuel Marquez back in boxing as a promoter!
Juan Manuel Marquez, a former four-division world champion and sure fire future Hall Of Fame inductee, announced his return to boxing! Before you even say it, no! It’s not as a boxer, but now as a promoter.
This won’t be a solo venture however, as he’s aligned himself with Potenza Boxing for his first event.
At a press conference that was attended by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman and general director of Potenza Boxing Marco Antonio Gutierrez, Marquez spoke on his plans as a promoter and the type of fights he’s looking to bring to the sport. His son Aldo Marquez will also aid his father in a position in the promotional company that’s currently unspecified.
“It’s a good thing for boxing, it’s going to be a big challenge. It’s difficult, but it’s nice to support the young people that we believe can be world champions.”
“What people want to see in a boxing show are competitive and even fights. Whoever wants to be world champion is going to rise up, and that is what we are going to do. […] we want to offer even fights so that the audience can be satisfied.”
Juan Manuel Marquez – Future Hall of Fame Inductee
“We want to do things right. There are going to be two shows per month. The first show is on July 12, where the main fight is headed by Rodrigo ‘Gatito’ Guerrero over ten rounds at super bantam. We’ll talk with Mauricio Sulaiman so that in a future, we can make fights with national and regional titles of the World Boxing Council.”
Marco Antonio Gutierrez – General Director if Potenza Boxing
gave his congratulations on the union.
“I congratulate the companies for this union. When you work in harmony, respect, you get great things. The important thing is to make matches and important fights.”
Mauricio Sulaiman – President of WBC
It’ll be interesting to see if Marquez can have the same success as a Promoter as he did as when he was a fighter.
