Marcos Maidana to end retirement; expects 2019 return

Marcos Maidana is returning to the ring!

The hard-hitting Argentinian and former multi-weight world champion announced on February 8 in a video that he plans to return to the ring this year.

The 35 year-old was last seen in the ring losing a unanimous decision in his rematch with Floyd Mayweather, in September of 2014. His back-to-back fights with Mayweather gave him his highest purses of his career.

Fans know Maidana for his punching power and fan friendly style. Additionally, he was a part of a few Fight of the Year candidates. Those match-ups include Victor Ortiz, Erik Morales, Josesito Lopez and Amir Kahn.

In the announcement, he also said his intentions were to return at welterweight under Al Haymon’s PBC brand.

There will be no shortages of opportunities for Maidana once he comes back! Especially, with the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Shawn Porter, Errol Spence Jr, Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia all fighting in the division.

The question will be “with so much added weight and the long layoff, will can Maidana be as dangerous as he once was?”
