If Amir Khan Keeps Fighting, Then Florian Marku Wants Next
Former unified junior welterweight champion Amir “King” Khan (34-6, 21KOs) is leaving fans in limbo on whether or not he will officially retire. After getting beat up and stopped by long-time rival Kell “Special K” Brook, Khan indicated that perhaps retirement was next. It seems the former champion changed his mind and wants to return to the ring, but against who?
Immediately following his devastating loss, Khan all but made it official about retiring, saying that he was leaning more in that direction. After some time to think, Khan claims that he picked the wrong team for the fight in Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, trainer for WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford.
Khan also has a rematch clause that can be invoked at any time in hopes of avenging that brutal beatdown by Brook. Promoter Ben Shalom of Boxxer Promotions is not so convinced that Khan should jump right back into a rematch.
A POSSIBLE OPPONENT FOR KHAN’S RETURN
Shalom has mentioned on several occasions that he prefers the former unified champion to take a tune-up first. While speaking to Sky Sports, he seems to have found just the person for Khan to fight in IBF International welterweight titlist Florian “The Albanian King” Marku (11-0-1, 7KOs).
The former MMA and kickboxer turned boxer has been on a roll and is not shy about calling for the fight. The Albanian King is well aware that he is a possible frontrunner for a Khan return fight. After dispatching challenger Chris Jenkins in four rounds, Marku quickly turned his focus on fighting Khan.
“Give me Amir Khan next. I am going to break him.”
Marku proceeded to ask the crowd if they want to see it, and judging from the roar, it sounded like a yes. As of the writing of this article, Khan has not responded. However, if he is to return, fans may see him and Marku standing across the ring from each other.
