Former Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez to Return
Former two-division world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (51-3-2, 28KOs) is planning a return to the ring after a five-year absence. The Argentinian boxer was last in the ring in June of 2014. There, four-division champion and Puerto Rican legend Miguel Cotto (41-6, 33KOs) would be embarrass Martinez.
Cotto would drop him four times in that fight en route to a tenth-round stoppage loss not many people saw coming. He was the heavy favorite heading into that fight.
At age 44, with multiple knee surgeries, it’ll be interesting to see how he looks when he returns. He will be 45 on February 21.
A return to the middleweight division is in line for the man who used to dazzle the fans and confuse his opponents. Fans remember him for his devastating one-punch knockout win over Paul Williams (41-2, 27KOs) in their November 2010 rematch.
The name of his opponent is still unknown at this time.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
