Abdullah Mason Battles through Adversity with Yohan Vasquez
In five minutes of exciting lightweight action, Abdullah Mason (16-0, 14 KOs) scored a dramatic second-round stoppage over Yohan Vasquez (26-6, 21 KOs) at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
In the opening minute of the first round, Vasquez sent shockwaves through the crowd after knocking down Mason with a left hook. Mason got up, regained his bearings, and wobbled Vasquez with a straight left hand a minute into round two. Smelling blood, Mason went to work. He pounded his adversary with a series of shots to the head and body that put Vasquez down for the count with seventy seconds to go in the round.
Faced with adversity for the first time in his career, the 20-year-old Mason displayed plenty of maturity. However, some in the boxing community will start to raise questions about his chin.
