Sulaiman to Let Crawford Plan Next Steps With Spence Fight Off
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman is on the same page as the rest of the boxing world in believing the rematch between unified welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford and Errol “The Truth Spence won’t happen. Furthermore, he revealed that Bud has been given some time to figure out a plan for the next step.
The fashion in which Bud defeated The Truth left several boxing fans uninterested in seeing the rematch. Despite the rumors they were going to fight at a junior middleweight, he beat the Texan so badly that the rematch would’ve flopped financially.
For months, boxing fans wondered if the fight was going to happen. Crawford (40-0, 31KO) eluded to the rematch not taking place after Spence (28-1, 22KO) revealed having surgery to remove cataracts for a second eye surgery.
DOESN’T BELIEVE IT HAPPENS
In an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, the WBC President pretty much confirmed what the boxing public already believe was the case.
“We were led to believe that there was going to be a rematch with Spence. But, I don’t believe that will happen. . .We’ll see what happens in the coming days. We have given his promoter and himself some time to decide, what is the best course of action at this moment.”

The Nebraskan hasn’t been in the ring since winning the undisputed crown in July 2023. He had to vacate the IBF title in the process of waiting for the rematch. Moreover, Crawford was hoping to land a fight with undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Canelo recently admitted that fight won’t happen as he has no interest in it. With no rematch or any other big money fight on the horizon it will be interesting to see what is the next move for the unified champion.
