Mikaela Mayer Believes She is More Than Ready to Dominate Alycia Baumgardner!

On September 10, unified junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer (17-0, 5KO) and WBC champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (12-0, 7KO) will settle their heated rivalry in the ring. Mayer doesn’t just want to win; she is out to make a statement.

AN INTENSE RIVALRY THE LEAD TO A UNIFICATION

If you have been following the history between these two champions, it is clear their dislike for each other is genuine. Baumgardner has vowed to stop Mayer and feels this is personal due to her belief the unified champion has no respect for her. Mayer has let it be known the beef between the two of them is genuine, and wanted to make the fight before looking to move up to lightweight.

In fairness to Baumgardner, she was trying to pursue unification with WBA champion Hyun-Mi Choi. However, negotiations fell apart due to Choi’s high demands. That’s where Mayer’s Top Rank promotional team stepped in with an offer that the WBC champion could not refuse.

The rivalry got even more heated once the fight was announced, leaving fans ready for a war. Whenever there is bad blood of this magnitude, the fighters typically want to make a statement, and Mayer is looking to do just that.

MAYER IS READY TO PUT ON A DOMINATING PERFORMANCE

During an interview with Sky Sports, Mayer explained why given her team, ability, and experience, she should win in dominating fashion.

“I’ve had all the experience, I’ve had all the support. I feel like I have the best team in the world […] they’ve given me all the great fights, all the best fights to challenge me in different ways. There is no reason I shouldn’t win this fight. There is no excuse.

I don’t want to just win this fight, and neither does coach Al. We really, really, really want to dominate this fight, and we want it to be the best performance of our career to date.”
