Mikaela Mayer Calls for a Rematch with Natasha Jonas!
After notching two victories, since suffering her first professional defeat, former unified super featherweight champion Mikaela Mayer (19-2, 5 KO’s) was tossed another loss. This time, Mayer lost a close, some will say controversial, decision to IBF 147-pound champion Natasha Jonas (15-2-1, 9 KO’s). Unsurprisingly, Mayer, who 3Kings Boxing had winning the prizefight, wasted zero time expressing her desire to run the match back.
Mayer didn’t even exit the ring before voicing her thoughts during her post-fight interview.
“At the end of the day, I think that that fight is worth seeing again. Like she said, it was one of the toughest fights she’s had. I think the fans really enjoyed it . . . I didn’t have a rematch clause on my side, but I am hoping that we can get this fight done again for the fans, if they want it . . . this is a warranted rematch”
LET’S RUN IT BACK!
Mayer has remained in transition since dropping her first professional loss at the hands of Alycia Baumgardner back on October 15, 2022. Since then, the former super featherweight champion picked up wins over Lucy Wildheart and Silvia Bortot. First, she battled Wildheart as a lightweight and then Bortot as a super lightweight. In fact, in her last four duels, the native Californian has fought in four different divisions.
Obviously, a rematch would mean that Mayer would return to the welterweight division. Yet, given the fun action they provided, and Mayer’s pricked pride, Jonas vs Mayer would be anything but a hard sell. First however, we will have to wait and see what the champion wants to do. Minus a rematch clause, Mayer is dependent on Jonas’ good will and sense of competition. So, stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing to see how this and many more thrilling episodes in boxing will conclude.
