Eddie Hearn Wants to Make Fights in Other Cities
DAZN/Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn spoke to the press after another successful event at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. There, former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Uysk (17-0, 13KO) put on a championship-like performance.
The witty British promoter expressed wanting to return to the place they call “The Windy City,” which possibly will host IBF Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin (40-1-1,35KO).
“February 29 is the date we are looking here. We have a hold on the arena (Wintrust) it’s difficult to go to a place twice in one year.”
“If there was a place we would go to twice to in a year, it would be Chicago.”
“We’ve probably got the two biggest gates in this arena; certainly tonight, outside of Joshua and Ruiz, which was our biggest gate in America.”
“It’s a great city and it’s not as expensive with production.”
When asked if there were other locations to be considered the always-vocal promoter named some very attractive cities.
Hearn revealed wanting a return to Texas as well. The state could host a possible fight featuring former world champions Daniel Jacobs and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. This follows some disappointment regarding turnout there for the unification fight between Maurice Hooker and Jose Ramirez.
Hearn went on to name other locations that undoubtedly will attract more fans to the sport.
“Atlantic City is being talked about, we’ve had events there before. Mexico has been great for us. We will be going to Miami in January.”
“It will be our first event in Florida, which I am quite excited about. New York is great but can become a little saturated unless you got a big event.”
“I want to go the Bay Area with Devin Haney.”
The outspoken promoter openly admitting to still learning how the American market works. Hence, why these locations should appeal to fans, especially some of the warmer climate areas.
One thing is for certain, DAZN is looking to bring fights to locations where boxing has been stagnant or non-existent at all.
