Floyd Mayweather Confirms Retirement!
Over the course of history, all too often when professional boxers retire it is proven to only be a temporary period. This is because either due to boredom, an irresistible callout or the more prevalent need of money fighters are frequently lured out of retirement.
Recently a torrent of rumors began to swirl surrounding the return of Floyd “Money” Mayweather (50-0, 27 KO’s) to the squared-circle to face Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-4-1, 24 KO’s).
HAPPILY RETIRED!
Many believed that due to their long standing relationship and past dealings that there was a sufficient backstory to build-on. Yet, before the rumors could get too far out of hand, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe put this notion to bed.
Now, going a step further, Mayweather himself has reaffirmed that he is done fighting while conducting an interview with Fight Hype.
“Those are just rumors, I’m retired. I’m through with boxing and it don’t hurt to stay in shape, your body is your temple. You only get one body so just in the gym trying to stay sharp, not for boxing just for myself, training fighters and you know just enjoying myself in this pandemic.”
Going a step further beyond the mere notion of tangling with Broner, Mayweather doubled down on his talks of begin committed to his retirement and unwillingness to fight any more boxers.
“Once again, I’ll say it again, I’m not boxing no boxer at all! None! I’m done! I’m retired and I love my life and I love being retired. There is no number that is worth me getting back in that ring and fighting these young fighters to get any type of wear and tear on my body.
“So am I going to fight any fighters as of right now? No, I’m retired. I’m retired from the sport of boxing. I’m training, having fun and enjoying life.”
