Floyd Mayweather Offers Tank Davis Fight to Ryan Garcia at 135!
As most know by now, Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (23-0, 19KOs) really wants to face three-division champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25KOs). Garcia is hell-bent on finally stepping into the ring with the Baltimore, Maryland native before the year is up. After his latest victory over Javier Fortuna, the hard-hitting contender has continued to taunt Davis into fighting him.
However, before negotiations can even commence, there may already be problems with which division the fight takes place. In his bout with Fortuna, Garcia competed at junior welterweight. In the aftermath, he let it be known that his days at 135 are over.
TANK IS NOT MOVING
Davis, the WBA Regular lightweight champion, is no doubt on the A side, and his promoter, Floyd Mayweather Jr, knows this. As popular as Garcia is outside of the ring, he hasn’t accomplished half of what Tank has inside of boxing. Therefore, the expectation from Mayweather is that if Garcia wants the fight, he’ll oblige team Davis by fighting at 135.
Speaking to Fighthype.com, Floyd Mayweather had the following to say about Davis v Garcia.
“The main man in the sport of boxing right now is the one that’s attached to me, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. That’s the only thing that this kid, Ryan Garcia, knows. That’s the only name that he knows is Tank, right? ‘Oh, I want to fight Tank! I don’t care, it’s the biggest fight!’
Okay, you want to fight Tank? You know in boxing we make sacrifices, so we know Tank fights at 135. So if you want to fight Tank at 135, we can make it happen before the end of the year.”
Well there you have it. It seems that if this fight is going to be made, it will be made at lightweight. Although Davis had fought at 140 before against Mario Barrios, a title was on the line. Garcia doesn’t have that as a bargaining tool. 3Kings Boxing will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
