Floyd Mayweather’s latest click bait!

Well it appears that Floyd “Money” Mayweather (50-0, 27 KO’s) is looking for a little bit of attention. Recently the retired former face of boxing took to social media to hint at a potential return. In the post a picture of Mayweather, in his ring trunks, is underscored by the caption: “coming out of retirement in 2020.”

Floyd Mayweather Talks 2020 Return
Floyd Mayweather posts about a return to boxing in 2020.

Moments later, the WBC posted about the “unofficial announcement” on one of their social media accounts as well.

Aside from this scant and cryptic message, there is no additional information. There is nothing in regards to who, when or where this return might take place. In all honesty, the out of the blue message is not very exciting. The last time that Money fought a legitimate professional boxer was back in September of 2015 against Andre “The Beast” Berto (32-5, 24 KO’s).

Technically, Mayweather Jr fought MMA super star Connor McGregor (0-1-0, 0 KO’s) in 2017 in a formal boxing match. Money also staged a boxing exhibition against Japanese kick-boxer Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018.

As was to be expected, Mayweather stopped both in relatively easy fashion. Therefore, in the eyes of most, the former five division champion has not staged a proper professional prizefight in over four years!

If Money Mayweather did return to the squared-circle, it’s highly unlikely that he will fight any of the champions at welterweight or super welterweight. Instead, he’d presumably either fight a complete no-hoper or stage another gimmick themed bout. In the end, however, it’s far more likely that Money will not come back at all and is only looking for some quick attention right now.

In any event, 3kingboxing will stay on top of this mysterious new development in case there is true substance within!
