Mayweather Believes One Day Benavidez Will Be The Man

Hall of Fame Inductee Floyd “Money” Mayweather has some advice for the two-time WBC super middleweight champion “The Mexican Monster” David Benavidez (28-0, 24KO). He believes that Benavidez is going to have to be patient and wait until his time comes.

ADVICE FROM THE HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE

While speaking on The Mexican Monster’s inability to land a fight with the undisputed champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Money Mayweather offered some words of wisdom for Benavidez in an interview with Fighthype.

“Well, if David Benavidez keep beating fighter after fighter, and champion after champion, eventually he’ll be the man. Then everybody will want to fight him. It’s just how it works. So, just like me, you have to wait your turn.”

“David Benavidez is a hell of a fighter. All David has to do is keep going out there beating guys, staying focused, and then he’ll be the guy.”

Like it or not he makes a valid point, as Money Mayweather knows this all too well. In the early 2000s, he, Oscar De La Hoya, and Miguel Cotto were under the same Top Rank umbrella. Yet, he had to wait until they severed ties with the promotion company before being able to fight them.

HE IS MOVING ON

The Mexican Monster is about to start the journey toward doing what Mayweather stated. Reports hit that he is going to light heavyweight to possibly fight Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the WBC Interim title.

The boxing world remains in a frenzy over the undisputed champion, Canelo, leaving Premier Boxing Champion. The two sides have decided to part ways, forgoing the second fight of a three-fight deal. Canelo is trying to strike a deal to fight Jaime Munguia, and Edgar Berlanga on the DAZN streaming app.

Several fans and pundits believe this was a deliberate move to avoid fighting The Mexican Monster. With a Canelo fight off the table, Benavidez is undoubtedly frustrated and believes the fight will never happen.
