Richard Riakporhe Flattens Welch and Calls Out Derek Chisora
In his second bout of the year, heavyweight fighter Richard “Midnight Train” Riakporhe (19-1, 15 KO’s) deflated and toppled Tommy Welch by way of second round TKO. With the win, his second foray into the heavyweight division, Riakporhe is now exactly looking to expand his horizons. When questioned about his ambitions for future conquests in the new weight class, Midnight Train stated that he wanted to focus exclusively on domestic opposition. When probed a bit further, Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom coughed up the names of Derek Chisora, David Adeleye and Dillan Whyte.
On the one hand, these are all solid names in regards to fan recognizability. On the other hand though, they certainly leave something to desire in terms of taking on the most formidable competition available. Chisora is on a three-fight win streak and possesses a handsomely decorated resume. However, he is longer in the tooth than a famished vampire. That being said, the UK icon is currently ranked #2 (IBF), #8 (WBO) and #14 (WBC).
“Richard is ready now, he is ready for the big names he is ready for the domestic scene. We have British Heavyweight title on November 29, he’ll be looking at Dillian Whyte, [Derek] Chisora, [David] Adeleye, all of the names will want to get in the ring with Richard.”
Conversely, both David Adeleye and Dillian Whyte are coming off losses, by way of UD and first round TKO, respectively. Unsurprisingly, neither Whyte nor Adeleye’s names are furnished in the top 15 of any of the four major sanctioning bodies. So, it will be interesting to see who Riakporhe signs a contract with next.
