Mexican investors interested in bringing the Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua rematch to Mexico!
Andy Ruiz is currently enjoying the perks that come with being the Heavyweight champion of the world. He upset Anthony Joshua June 1 to unseat him as the top guy in the division.
Since becoming the first Mexican to win the heavyweight title, he has been in a whirlwind of interviews. He has also traveled to Mexico and received red carpet treatment.
While in Mexico, Ruiz met with a number of important businessmen highly interested in hosting his next fight. Preferably, the rematch with Anthony Joshua.
However, that seems highly unlikely due to contractual terms agreed upon before Joshua-Ruiz one.
Ruiz met with Benjamín Salinas, CEO of TV Azteca, Carlos Slim, and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the president of the Mexican Republic.
National Boxing Commissioner Miguel Torruco had the following to say on the matter.
“His success story is a great symbol of motivation for all Mexicans because in him, we saw the determination and the sense of worth of a Mexican.
“As you yourself saw it in your recent visit, the people of Mexico recognize and applaud his victory.
“This is why the Office of the President of the National Boxing Commission, in coordination with the private initiative, extends a cordial invitation to him to consider defending his titles as a heavyweight champion in Mexico.”
The businessmen, if unable to secure the rights to the Ruiz vs Joshua rematch, would like to stage a future Ruiz title fight down the line.
Of course, he would have to defeat Joshua in their rematch later this year in order to get this opportunity down the line.
