Michael McKinson Will Need To Win Convincingly Against Vergil Ortiz Jr

WBO #5 ranked welterweight contender Michael McKinson (22-0, 2KO) is accustomed to fighting undefeated opponents and welcomes the challenge of taking on Vergil Ortiz Jr (18-0, 18KO) Saturday, August 6 LIVE on DAZN @ 9:00 PM ET.

McKinson has a warrior mentality despite harboring a staggering 9% knockout ratio. He proclaims he never needed KO power to win comfortably. Yet, he has shown on several occasions the willingness to put himself in harm’s way by fighting other undefeated opponents.

From 2019 to 2021, the undefeated southpaw took on three undefeated foes consecutively. Luis Alberto Veron, Martin Harkin, and Chris “2slick” Kongo. Although, Veron and Harkin are subpar opponents, his win over Kongo gained the attention of the boxing community.

In his last bout, McKinson made his American debut with a victory against Alex Martin. However, the performance was lackluster. Now the urge to put on a much better performance against Ortiz is high. While speaking with the media, he acknowledged that playing it safe is not an option.

“I can’t just come over and nick a win. I’m fighting Vergil Ortiz in his backyard. I have to make sure I win clear. I have to make sure I take chances. I have to take advantage of every opportunity possible.

“We’re well prepared.”
