Michel Rivera Calls Out Rolando Romero
Social media has been the platform for fighters to go after each and often times they have used it to work their way into a high-profile fight. The lightweight division is full of talented fighters looking to make a splash and Dominican Michel “La Zarza” Rivera (21-0, 14ko) is looking to do just that by going after WBA Interim titlist Roland “Rolly” Romero (14-0, 12ko).
Rivera started his career out the gate in his home country in the Gimnasio Pedro Cruz arena by scoring a devastating knockout. He would continue gathering wins against regional opponents before making an American debut against undefeated Juan Rene Tellez in June 2019.
La Zarza has continued fighting in the U.S and captured the vacant WBC Continental Americas title after defeating Fidel Maldonado Jr in February. In 2020, he stepped up in competition defeating Ladarius Miller for the vacant USBA lightweight title. He currently ranks #3, #11, #13 and #14 by the WBA, IBF, WBO and WBC respectively.
RIVERA GOES HARD AFTER ROMERO
Looking to capitalize on the momentum, Rivera took on then WBA number eleven ranked Jon Fernandez. Rivera had to overcome adversity by getting up off the canvas in the sixth round and stopped Fernandez with a meme-style knockout live on Showtime that went viral on social media.
That victory immediately paid off with a high ranking by the WBA. The Dominican is within striking distance to fight for a title and eager to get an opportunity.
Romero lately shifted gears from chasing WBC champion Devin “The Dream” Haney to going after a bigger payday against three-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. He took to social media answering fans’ inquiries of being serious about the fight.
“I’m Tank’s Mandatory.”
Rivera’s response put shows that he wants to be in the mix as well!
