Mikey Garcia vs Sergey Lipinets Postponed

Hand injury to Lipinets will postpone fight against Garcia

According to reports, the IBF junior welterweight title fight between Mikey Garcia and Sergey Lipinets will be postponed due to a hand injury Lipinets suffered while in training. The bout was scheduled for February 10th in San Antonio, Texas at the Alamodome.

Garcia, who turned down several offers to take the fight with Lipinets is currently left without a dance partner.

The delay will prolong Garcia’s stated desire to move back down and get an unification bout at 135. Two of the other champions are in action this month with Robert Easter Jr and Jorge Linares set to fight in the coming two weeks.

It is unknown at this time as to the severity of the injury or when Lipinets may be able to return. The Kazakh native just won his title over Akihiro Kondo in November.

Rances Barthelemy is scheduled to fight Kiryl Relikh in a rematch on the same card for the vacant World Boxing Association light welterweight title. Barthelemy beat Relikh by a controversial 12 round decision earlier this year in May. It’s not clear at this time if this fight will be rescheduled with the main event or not.

Promoter Richard Schaefer has expressed his desire to reschedule the Garcia vs Lipinets fight in San Antonio.
