Ladarius Miller ekes out close decision over Jezreel Corrales.
In a battle of southpaws, Ladarius Miller took on former WBA junior lightweight champion Jezreel Corrales.
Early On
The first two rounds of this fight mirrored one another, as Corrales came out aggressively forcing his opponent to fight on his back foot.
Miller, who’s an excellent counter-puncher, found little to no success in that department.
The action would pick up in the third round. Miller landed three hard right hooks on Corrales that clearly got his attention. The former champion would come back in round four with his aggression and cap the round with a beautiful straight left-hand.
This fight going forward was a bit dull. The more slick fighter in Miller attempted to fight at close-range but continuously tried to land a huge counter-shot.
Meanwhile, the former champion applied pressure but most of it was ineffective.
In The End
Overall, Corrales was the more active fighter. He pushed the pace, forced the action and threw and landed more punches. Corrales was deducted a point in the tenth for holding and this would eventually seal his fate in a close fight.
Miller would win via split decision with two score cards of 96-93 and 95-94 in his favor. The remaining card read 96-93 for Corrales.
This bout left a lot to be desired, especially from Miller, who has title aspirations. He’s going to have to get better if he wants to be viewed as a serious threat to the top of the lightweight division.
