Jaime Munguia v Gonzalo Gaston Coria Set for November 19!
Golden Boy Promotions has announced that Jaime Munguia (40-0, 32 KOs) will step back into the ring
on November 19 to face Argentina’s Gonzalo Gaston Coria (21-5, 8 KOs) in Guadalajara, Mexico. The fight airs live on DAZN.
A one-time WBO junior middleweight champion, Munguia is looking to stay undefeated. It will be the
third fight of the year for the 26-year-old from Tijuana, Baja California Mexico. In February 2022, he stopped D’Mitrius Ballard in three rounds. Next was a fifth-round stoppage over Jimmy Kelly in June 2022.
Next up is Coria, who comes into this bout on a three-fight winning streak and has won five of his
last six. The 25-year-old has faced some sturdy competition. Two prominent opponents on his resume are former world title challenger Artur Akavov and reigning WBO middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly. Unfortunately for the resident of Cordoba, Argentina, Coria came up on the short end in those bouts. He lost to Akavov by a ten-round decision in May 2018. Alimkhanuly stopped him in two rounds in October 2020.
STAKES IS HIGH
Munguia is ranked first by the WBO at 160. During this week’s WBO convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico,
the sanctioning body announced that Munguia is in line to face the winner of the November 11 contest between Alimkhanuly and his upcoming challenger Denzel Bentley. Coria is looking to go into enemy lines and play spoiler. So it’s safe to say that there is added incentive for this upcoming contest.
