Jaime Munguia fights his way to a co-promotional deal
WBO super welterweight champion Jaime Munguia, along with his primary promoter Zanfer Promotions has inked a co-promotional deal. The heavy-handed Mexican boxer and team, have signed a five to six-fight contract with Golden Boy Promotions.
DAZN, who Golden Boy joined in October, will more than likely broadcast the entertaining Tijuana native’s fights.
Munguia (31-0, 26KOs) burst onto the mainstream scene when he brutally defeated former WBO champion, Sadam Ali in May 2018. The 22 year-old entered the fight as a late replacement for Liam Smith who suffered an injury.
At the opening bell, the young warrior asserted himself; knocking Ali down twice in the first round with hard shots. In total, the defending champion would hit the canvas six-times forcing referee Gary Rosato to stop the bout.
After that fateful night, Munguia’s stock started to rise. Fans instantly began mentioning his name with divisional champions Jermell Charlo and Jarrett Hurd for future unification matchups.
Additionally, an exciting battle with tough British challenger Liam Smith added fuel to his fire and won over more fans.
The young champion finished his stellar year, battling Brandon Cook at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. A deadly combination of size and power proved too much for Cook, as Munguia cruised to a third-round knockout.
Talents like Jamie Munguia, are great for the DAZN platform. His youth allows him to grow with the brand while providing exposure to boxing’s limitless fanbase.
