Raymond Muratalla vs Andy Cruz Looks Promising for 2026
The lightweight division has a very interesting fight possibly on the horizon. IBF champion Raymond “Danger” Muratalla could possibly face mandatory challenger Andy Cruz. If the two sides are unable to negotiate a contract, then a purse bid will be ordered.
This fight was originally scheduled to take place this year, but it will most likely occur in early 2026. Several pundits have accused the top champions in the division of not looking in the Cuban’s direction. Well, there is a good reason why no one is in a hurry to face Cruz, who is very capable of defeating any champion in the division.
Danger is a solid fighter who comes from the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy. Garcia has done a good job of transforming the young Californian into a world champion. In his last outing, Muratalla dominated Zaur Abdullaev en route to a unanimous decision win.
Cruz has shaken off that amateur style of fighting and has become an exciting fighter to watch under the training of Philadelphia’s own Bozy Ennis. The 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist’s sharp counter-punches, ability to fight off the backfoot, and defense resulted in a stoppage against Hironori Mishiro on June 14.
This author has no problem picking Cruz to win the fight. His overall abilities and ring IQ will be hard for Muratalla to overcome.
