Murray will remain on June 23rd card
Martin Murray has found a new opponent to replace the injured Billy Joe Saunders. Shortly after Saunders pulled out of the scheduled fight, we learned the event was still gonna go on. There was questions on whether or not Murray was still going to be on the card.
Well Murray now has an opponent, a late replacement in Roberto Garicia. The bout will be for the WBC “Silver” Middleweight Title. Garcia picked up the vacant WBC title when he defeated Omar Chavez by unanimous decision.
Murray hasn’t been in the ring since September of last year, when he defeated Arman Torosyan by fourth round TKO. It has been a frustrating time for him as he has had two fights cancelled against Saunders.
The two went back and forth on social media and you could see the frustration and disappointment coming from Murray. Saunders pulled out of the first scheduled fight for April, with a hand injury. They got it pushed back to June 23rd, and Saunders pulled out of this fight with a hamstring injury.
Lost in all of this is that Murray lost a shot at the WBO middleweight belt. Martin Murray vs Roberto Garcia will be in London at the O2 Arena on June 23rd.
