Jackie Nava vs Mariana Juarez: when will the fight happen?
Remember when the boxing world was told the long-anticipated showdown featuring two of Mexico’s greatest women fighters were going to fight? It was the fight that everyone in Mexico had been waiting for, living legends WBC bantamweight champion Mariana “La Barbie” Juarez (54-9-4, 18ko) and Jackie “La Princesa Azteca” Nava (35-4-4, 16ko).
The boxing community and all the Mexican fans were ready to witness history in the making. Even the fighters got onboard when La Barbie posted a picture of the two of them on social media announcing she was ready to face her fellow rival.
POSTPONED
However, COVID-19 canceled the May 9 fight date. This took the air out of the balloon when the fight was called off and now it seems that the wait is still ongoing.
Nava recently fought against Estrella “La Chacala” Valverde (18-6-2, 3ko) on July 4, 2020. The two-divisional champion would be awarded a unanimous decision.
THE WAITING GAME
Now that she has worked off the ring rust, next up is hopefully a fight with rival Juarez. During a virtual conference, Nava acknowledged that fighting La Barbie will require serious training.
“We definitely know that Mariana is a very, very high-quality rival, and we will have to work. Above all, I would like to work at heights because it gives me that confidence that I bring much more strength, more of everything.”
“You have to work a lot of points, all the movements. She is a fighter with a lot of experience, strength, and she is intelligent.”
Although the only thing we are waiting for is the fight to be rescheduled now that boxing is back. However, don’t be surprised if La Barbie takes a tune-up bout first. Then, maybe we will see them in the ring to close out the year.
