Emanuel Navarrete v Joet Gonzalez on tap for October 15!
Hard-hitting WBO featherweight champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete (34-1, 29KOs) returns to the ring when he defends his title against Joet Gonzalez (24-1, 14KOs) on October 15. Navarrete, a two division world champion, will be fighting for the second time in 2021. His last ring outing came against two-time world title challenger Christopher Diaz, whom he stopped in the twelfth round. The knockout victory came in dramatic fashion.
A must-see fighter, the Mexican champion has been extremely active, and what you would call a fighting champion. In 2019, he made four title defenses of his WBO 122-pound belt and fought three times in 2020. Ever since bursting on the scene, after upsetting former WBO junior featherweight champion Issac Dogboe in December of 2018, he’s been a must-see fighter due to his explosive power and fan-friendly fighting style.
Joet Gonzalez ranks number one in the WBO and number fifteen in the IBF. He will be attempting to become a world champion for the second time in his young career. In October of 2019, he would face off with Shakur Stevenson, his bitter rival, for the vacant WBO featherweight title. After being outboxed for twelve rounds, his dream of becoming world champion would be crushed! Instead of dwelling on the loss, he would get right back into the swing of things back taking on and defeating Miguel Marriaga. That fight was for the vacant WBO international featherweight title. The win put him in position to challenge Navarrete.
This fight will surely provide entertainment. Can Navarrete continue his dominant ways and secure another impressive knockout victory? If so, will this finally lead him to unification bouts with the fellow champions Gary Russell (WBC), Kid Galahad (IBF) or Leo Santa Cruz (WBA)? One can hope as the featherweight division needs a marquee fight to happen and happen soon!
