Navarrete vs Elorde Set for September 24
WBO super bantamweight champion Emanuel Navarrete (28-1, 24KO) is going to fight Juan Miguel Elorde (28-1, 15KO) on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs Otto Wallin.
Navarrete is making a name for himself since winning the title against Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe in December 2018. After two impressive knockouts, it look like things are only going to get better for the hard-punching champion. This will be the third defense of his WBO strap.
Elorde, a 32-year old Filipino fighter, currently ranks #2 with the WBO. This fight marks the opportunity of a lifetime for the relatively unknown pugilist. Considering his lackluster resume, he can introduce himself to the boxing world with a victory against a champion who is coming into his own.
The champion has expressed wanting an unification fight. However, unified champion Daniel Roman is busy and WBC champion Rey Vargas is coming off a tough fight. Therefore, it seems Team Navarrete will just have to wait and continue to dominate opponents in front of big crowds.
The junior featherweight division’s talent pool is tantalizing! Given the mouth-watering match-ups, it is beginning to turn into a must-watch division.
This fight is scheduled to take place in the T-Mobile Arena on September 24, live on ESPN+.
