Luis Nery will face Carlos Sardinez December 1.

Undefeated former WBC Bantamweight Champion Luis Nery fights in December

Former WBC Bantamweight Champion Luis Nery (27-0, 21KO) is looking to end the year against Argentina fighter Carlos Sardinez (13-1, 2KO).

The 21 year-old’s career was riding high as he tore through the division. It would eventually lead to a title clash with then undefeated champion Shinsuke Yamanaka in 2017.

This is where things took a bad turn. Nery would get the victory, however, discovery of a failed VADA test emerged. Tainted meat said to be the culprit, lead to a WBC investigation resulting in him losing the title.

Since then the #4 rated contender has been fighting his way back into title contention winning the WBC Silver title.

INTERESTING FACTS:

Sardinez holds the South American title and will be fighting outside of Argentina for the first time.

Nery has held the WBC Silver title twice but has only fought outside of Mexico twice.

Although this is a “stay busy” fight, it still has a huge impact on the division’s top fighters. Especially with Nordine Oubaaii facing Rau’Shee Warren for the vacate title and Takuma Inoue vs Petch Sor Chitpattana for the eliminator.

A victory keeps a title opportunity in play. Heading into 2019, there is going to be a lot of attention on this division given the potential match-ups.

This fight will be for the WBC Silver title in Saltillo, Mexico on December 1.
