No Vargas For Thurman?

Keith Thurman to face TBA

Earlier today PBC and Showtime Boxing announced a huge slate of fights set to take place in the first half of the year. Keith Thurman was one of those announced.

However most found it interesting that his opponent listed was the ever busy TBA on May 19th. After numerous reports that his comeback fight would likely be in April against Jesse Vargas it now appears those negotiations have hit a snag.

We reached out to Thurman to try to get some clarity and he responded by saying: “TBA. We’ll find an opponent and I’ll defend the two belts I have.”

We also asked him what the likelihood of us seeing an unification fight this year between him and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr and he said: “Not this year, maybe right after though”

Thurman last fought in March of last year when he defeated Danny Garcia in their unification showdown. He is returning from an elbow injury that required surgery so a “tune-up” type fight is understandable at the moment.

Vargas, who recently signed with Al Haymon, will apparently have to wait for his “big name” bout. The move to Haymon and the PBC made sense with Vargas being in the welterweight division.

As soon as we are able to get more information on Thurman’s next opponent we will keep you up to date.
