O’shae Jones earns bronze medal in Olympic Games
Having reached the end of her Olympic run, Toledo, Ohio welterweight boxer O’shae Jones (43-10, 0 KO) walked away with the bronze medal. Naturally, she would have preferred the gold, yet medaling at all is a great accomplishment. To her credit, she started the games very well but fell short against Gu Hong of China in the semifinals. Jones, 23, won on one judge’s card with a score of 29-28. However, that was trumped by the additional rulings of 30-27 (3x) and 29-28. When the fight was concluded, there were those, like Andre Ward, who publicly voiced their disagreement with the cards.
Prior to the Olympics, Jones had already shown her promise in the amateurs. She has achieved honors in the 2016-2018 Elite National Championships, 2017 Continental Championships, 2019 Pan American Games, 2019 Elite Women’s World Championships and the 2020 US Olympic Team Trials.

At the moment, it is not known what her next move will be. O’Shae Jones works out of the Soul City Boxing Gym and is trained by Otha Jones and Roshawn Jones. Otha Jones is her father and her brother is Otha “OJ3” Jones. OJ3 is already a professional super featherweight fighter who is signed to Matchroom Boxing and fights regularly on DAZN. The Soul City Boxing Gym has been making a little noise with fighters such as OJ3, super middleweight Isaiah Steen and super welterweight Charles Conwell. So there is the distinct possibility that she could turn pro, but again, that is not a solid fact at this point in time.
