Lawrence Okolie defends his belt in brutal fashion
On March 20, Lawrence “The Sauce” Okolie (17-0, 14 KO’s) captured the vacant WBO cruiserweight title in pitiless fashion. In that contest, Okolie stopped Krzysztof Glowacki with a chilling right hook during the second round. Six months later, the Sauce made the first successful defense of that title by knocking out Dilan Prasovic (15-1 12 KO’s) in the third round of their showdown.
With this latest stoppage, the heavy-handed UK fighter is now riding a seven-fight win streak. In fact, three of his last four foes were undefeated. Brimming with confidence as he is, Okolie will no doubt seek to stage unification bouts. It will be interesting to see how he is matched in his next prizefight.
EASY WORK
The champ got off to a great start, controlling the action with his jab and effective right-hand. Despite his dominance, there was not much tangy action to speak of, yet this would change in the final minute of the second round. While carelessly advancing on Okolie with his hands down, Prasovic was clipped with an overhand right that badly wobbled him. Moments later, he went to a knee. Luckily for him, he heard the bell without further issue.
Life still would not improve for him, however. Two minutes into the third round, the Sauce dropped the game fighter to the canvas with a withering left hook to the ribs. While on the ground, Dilan Prasovic writhed and grimaced on the ground and ultimately could not continue. With his opponent incapacitated with pain, Lawrence Okolie was award the solid knockout win.
In his post-fight interview, Okolie expressed his desire to unify the title. Ahead of the pack, the UK fighter has the greatest interest in IBF cruiserweight champion Mairis Briedis.
