Talented super lightweight Omar Alejandro Aguilar picks up another knockout win
In his latest prizefight, the heavy-handed Omar Alejandro “Pollo” Aguilar (22-0, 21 KO’s) prevailed by stoppage once again. In this particular contest, Aguilar stopped his foe, Carlos “Capri” Portillo (22-4, 17 KO’s), in the second round. The win stood as Pollo’s eleventh straight stoppage win. While the laundry list of knockouts looks good to the eye, Aguilar has admittedly not been facing the upper echelon of opposition.
Even with this being the case, Pollo is ranked #15 (WBC). It will be interesting to see where the Mexican goes from here. The distasteful outcome roughly served to Portillo was not exactly a grand surprise. The loss stands as his third consecutive loss with two back-to-back defeats by way of stoppage.
SHORT NIGHT
The bout began in somewhat standard fashion as the two fighters would feel another out. Aguilar was busy and accurate with his jab, yet about a minute and a half in, Pollo badly wobbled Portillo with a right hook. In the closing seconds of the period, Pollo scored a knock down with a left hook. Then within the first minute of the second round, Capri was placed on the canvas two more times. While looking shaky, he managed to rise from the right hook that initially put him down. On his second trip to the floor however, by way of a left hook, he complained greatly about his eye and was counted out.
