Oscar Collazo Remains Undefeated By Defeating Gerardo Zapata
WBO minimum weight champion Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo (10-0, 7KO) outboxed Gerardo Zapata (14-2-1, 5KO) en route to another successful title defense.
El Pupilo had to overcome early adversity after getting hurt early in the fight. He quickly took control of the contest with those perfect countershots that stunned Zapata.
As the fight continued in the middle rounds, Zapata did a good job of going to the body. Yet, Collazo switched strategy by applying pressure by landing hard counter shots.
With his opponent fighting off the backfoot, Collazo continued to land hard countershots to the body and head. The champion used feints and angles to confuse Zapata before landing more hard combinations.
The Argentinian tried to fight back, but his offense was quickly snuffed out by the aggressive counterpunches of the El Pupilo.
In the final rounds, Collazo stalked a gun-shy Zapata until the final bell sounded. Two judges scored it 119-109, and one had it 117-110 in favor of Collazo.
With a third title defense in the books, he expressed a desire to fight in a unification next.
