Collazo Puts Division On Notice With Stoppage Over Freshmart
In a minimumweight unification, WBO champion Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo (11-0, 8KO) defeated WBA champion Knockout CP Freshmart (25-1, 9KO)
As both fighters spent time gathering data in the feel-out rounds, El Pupilo was the busier fighter and landed solid counters while attacking the body. Freshmart focused on attacking the body to slow down Collazo’s movement. He even started landing the straight right hand.
Yet, the WBO champion adjusted nicely. He threw combinations, and those uppercuts followed by the right hook off the angles killed Freshmart. However, Collazo got rocked by a hard counter from Freshmart.
In the sixth round, Collazo changed the course of the fight after landing a thunderous counter hook that dropped Freshmart. He wasn’t done and scored two more knockdowns in the next round, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Collazo claimed that a victory over the division’s longest-reigning champion would make him the man. Well, he was correct, and fans can expect him to go for the undisputed crown.
