Oscar De La Hoya Proposes Huge Jaime Munguia v Edgar Berlanga Card

Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya wants to make a fight between former WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (41-0, 33KO) and top super middleweight contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (20-0, 16KO).

The Chosen One hit the news cycle after parting ways with promotional company Top Tank on January 18. Furthermore, he is reportedly being sought after by various boxing entities for his services. One of them is Golden Boy Promotions, which would love to have a top fighter in the division.

This cued fans to question if this mean Munguia would be going up for the fight. The Mexican has been ranked #1 by the WBC and WBO at middleweight for a long time.

In 2022, Munguia was reportedly looking at a fight with WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo. However, things fell apart when reports hit that Premier Boxing Champions and Golden Boy were unable to agree on US broadcasting rights.

Berlanga has not been in the ring since defeating fringe contender Roamer Alexis Angulo in June 2022. Furthermore, he was suspended for six months by the New York State Athletic Commission after trying to bite Angulo. He is currently ranked #4 by the WBA, IBF, WBO, and #12 WBC.

Upon hearing the news of Berlanga’s departure, De La Hoya took to social media to propose a good fight for the New Yorker.

Mexico versus Puerto Rico is one of the oldest rivalries in boxing. A fight between these two hard-hitters would bring the fans out in droves, especially if the match-up happens during Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend.
