Oscar Duarte Looking Ahead After Rough Battle with Angel Fierro
In his latest duel, super lightweight fighter Oscar “La Migrana” Duarte (30-2-1, 23 KO’s) narrowly beat Angel “Tashiro” Fierro (23-4-2, 18 KO’s) by way of the split decision. The 116-112, 115-112 (Duarte) and 116-112 (Fierro) score was heavily booed by the audience at hand.
Despite the displeasure of the live audience, Duarte, ranked #3 (IBF, WBA) and #8 (WBO), is now free to pursue his next challenge. With his present standings, he is in prime position to press for a showdown with WBA 140-pound champion Gary Antuanne Russell. Russell was just in action this past February 21 in a successful first defense of his title.
If not Russell, Team Duarte may want to look towards either WBO #1 Keyshawn Davis or IBF #1 Lindolfo Delgado. Delgado has yet to compete this year and should be itching to get back in the ring. Although, perhaps awaiting Duarte to heal up from battling with Fierro is too much idle time for Team Delgado.
Keyshawn Davis he is gearing up for his second dustup against Nahir Albright this May 16. Provided he prevails wins, his name and fan-friendly style could make Duarte a perfect opponent for the all-action Davis. In the end, however, we will just have to see how Team Duarte rebound after this hard-fought victory.
