Benavidez Snatches WBO Title From Ramirez; Wants Canelo Next
In a very impressive showing, newly established cruiserweight boxer David “The Monster” Benavidez (32-0, 26 KO’s) destroyed the decorated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (48-2, 30 KO’s) by way of sixth-round knockout. With the spoils of war, The Monster also collected Zurdo’s WBO cruiserweight title. With this win, Benavidez has now been a champion in the cruiserweight, light heavyweight and super middleweight divisions. Benavidez still holds the WBC light heavyweight title.
Clearly, Benavidez’s is staring at a very bright future with a plethora of options at hand. Yet, when providing his post-fight interview, Benavidez’s wasted little time in renewing his on-going rivalry with multi-divisional champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
The Monster has blatantly and relentlessly chased a fight with Canelo for several years. Sadly, to date, Alvarez has rather shamelessly dismissed the prizefight despite the fans clamoring for it and Benavidez working himself into the mandatory position. If history is to be respected though, Alvarez will continue to shun the bout.
With his popularity at its peak however, combined with the sensational way in which Benavidez just dethroned Ramirez, it will be hard for Canelo to simply brush the fight off any longer. We just may finally get to see the Benavidez vs Canelo match we’ve been craving. So, let’s just wait and see what’s next for the uber exciting David “The Monster” Benavidez!
