Joseph Parker wears down and stops Shawndell Winters in 5!
Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (27-2, 21KOs) made his 2020 ring debut against Illinois native Shawndell Winters (13-3, 12KOs).
Parker, looking to shake off the ring rust, came out strong behind a thudding jab. Sporting the size and youth advantage, he elected to walk down his smaller opponent.
To Winters’ credit, he came to fight! Backed against the ropes, the 39-year-old fighter would utilize the “Mayweather” shoulder roll, which would be beneficial for him in spots against Parker. In close quarters, the two men would exchange hard shots!
ROUND THREE KNOCKDOWN!
Parker would score a knockdown on Winters with a right-hand that would send him down to the canvas. While not badly hurt, it would be the beginning of the end!
Winters would bounce back in the fourth round landing some nice left hooks and right-hands on Parker, who sustained a cut over his right eye.
FIFTH ROUND CONCLUSION!
The end would come for Winters after Parker landed a thudding left-hand right-hand combination that sent him down! This time severely hurt, he would manage to make it back to his feet, but would be ruled unable to continue by the referee.
Parker improves his record to 27-2, 21 KOs and hopes to continue his journey back into title contention.
