Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker understands the importance of winning the upcoming match-up against long time contender Dereck Chisora.

During a recent interview on FightHype, the kiwi heavyweight expressed that a victory is extremely important.

“For me at this stage of my career, I must win! I know for him [Chisora] you know he’s been in the game for a longtime and he’s coming off two great wins.

“I don’t think he has a lot to lose but for me at this age IT’S A MUST WIN.”

The 27 year-old former champion is absolutely correct being victorious is imperative.

THE IMPORTANCE OF VICTORY

Trouble for the New Zealand fighter began with two high profile losses in 2018 that pushed his career down the ladder.

Losing the world title to former unified champion Anthony Joshua, followed by another loss to Dillian Whyte saw a huge drop in his prestige.

The WBC is the only organization that has Parker ranked inside the top 10. While his opponent is coincidentally ranked #10, it would provide a huge boost in a possible push for another title opportunity.

Parker, was very forthcoming about the difficulties of facing the British heavyweight.

“We will put a plan together to counter what he’s gonna bring. The type of fighter he is, he’s gonna be on you, chase you down throw lots of punches.

“One thing he does do real well is that he’s very fit and comes forward all the time.”

The former champion also acknowledged it’s the perfect type of fight stylistically that can produce a war!

These two men will battle it out on October 26 at the O2 Arena!
