Patrick Day succumbs to injuries sustained in an October 12 bout!
A four day battle finally comes to a tragic end as junior middleweight contender Patrick Day (17-4-1, 6KOs) succumbs to a brain injury obtained in his October 12 bout with undefeated former Olympian Charles Conwell (11-0, 8KO).
The the young fighter from Freeport, New York was only 27 years-old!
The fight that led to him being hospitalized ended with a final left-hook that would send him to the canvas. Upon landing, his head snapped back, thudding against the canvas extremely hard. There was no doubt to all watching that he was seriously injured.
He would immediately be taken out of the ring on a stretcher and soon after began to seize on the way to the hospital.
Once there, it was discovered he had swelling and bleeding on the brain. Although he underwent emergency surgery, he would never regain consciousness.
His promoter Lou Dibella released a statement confirming his fighters death.
This marks the third passing of a professional fighter over the past three months (Patrick Day, Maxim Dadashev and Hugo Alfredo Santillan).
