Peterson vs Lipinets
As part of the PBC on Fox announcement, Lamont Peterson will collide with Sergey Lipinets on Sunday, March 24, 2019. The MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland will host the intriguing matchup.
Lipinets (29), is returning to the ring after winning a close battle with Erick Bone in August. The fight was the first at welterweight for the former IBF Super Lightweight champion and proved to be tough. Lipinets would edge out the victory, but leave many questioning whether his move up in weight was the best choice. Since then, the Kazakhstan native has remained idle.
As for Peterson, the 34 year-old has strung together a career full of highs, lows, and championships. In January, he tried his luck against IBF kingpin Errol Spence Jr. The fight would play out the way many expected, as Spence’s power would prove to be too much for Peterson. He did, however, gain the admiration of boxing fans that commended him for his efforts.
Given the contrast in styles, Peterson and Lipinets should produce an exciting affair. Both fighters come to fight and always show the ability to fight through adversity regardless of their situation. Additionally, a win for either could be the catalyst that propels them into championship contention and bigger fights.
